Beginning with Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, the box features works by Saint-Saens, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Poulenc, Milhaud, Honegger, Messiaen, Boulez, and Dutilleux, covering the most dramatic changes in French music from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century. This box allows you to easily trace the genealogy of the most dramatic changes in French music from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. The 25 recordings are arranged in 11 packages by composer (and by theme). The 25 discs are packaged in 11 different packages by composer (and one theme), each in a digi-sleeve designed around an illustration of the composer, and housed in a slipcase.A brief bio of the composer (in English and French) is included in the digisleeve. (1)CD1+2 Berlioz: Munsch's second recording of two symphonies. (2)CD3+4 Saint-Saens Works: Munsch's famous "Organ" is coupled with three pieces from Entremont's acclaimed complete concerto cycle and Fiedler's "Carnival of the Animals". (3)CD5-7 Debussy Works: A collection of orchestral works conducted by Boulez and a rare Debussy work by Dalbert. (4)CD8-10 Faure works: Includes Seiji Ozawa's famous "Requiem" and choral works from Kembroodge Trinity College, Luisada's piano works, Corcia's violin sonatas, and Stutzmann's song cycle. (5)CD11+12 Satie's works: piano pieces by Entremont, Varzano, the genius who died young, and Masselos, known for his collaboration with Toshiya Eto.(6)CD13-15 Ravel works: In addition to the orchestral pieces conducted by Boulez, a two-hand + left-hand piano concerto by Entremont, and Juilliard's third string quartet.
