Jazz Giants of the 20th Century: Miles Davis 90 years after his birth and 25 years after his death, Robert Glasper (1978-), a vibrant player on the new generation jazz scene, has re-created the sound world of Miles Davis with the 2016 release of "Everything is Beautiful. Everything is Beautiful". Glasper remixed Miles Davis' original recordings from the Columbia label's tape vaults. Glasper commented on the album, "This is not just a remix album. I didn't want it to be just a remix album. We wanted to show how much of an influence Miles had on people and how he was a source of new art. We still live in the spirit of Miles." "Everything is Beautiful" features a diverse group of artists who share the Miles gene, including Bilal, Ila J., Erykah Badu, Phonte, Hiatus Cayote, Laura Mavula, King, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Stevie Wonder, and guitarist John Scofield, who actually played in Miles' band. Miles' original sound sources are sampled freely by Glasper for each song, resulting in an album full of fresh surprises. The artwork was written by Francine Turk, a standard-bearer in the American contemporary art world, and was inspired by Glasper's ideas of free collage of Miles' music.As a pianist and producer, Glasper transcends the boundaries of R&B, jazz, and hip-hop genres with his trio and "Experiment. Miles has an innovative spirit that is open and unafraid of change. If Miles were alive today, these two innovators with common aspirations would surely have collaborated. Listening to this fantastic collaboration, we are reminded once again of the depth of Miles' music.
