For the first time ever, the soundtrack to the cult 1997 sci-fi action film directed by Paul Verhoeven, the master of many hit movies, is now available on 2LP (140g Black Vinyl, gatefold sleeve, poster)! Set in the 23rd century, the film tells the story of Johnny Rico and his friends as they serve in the military under the Earth World Government known as the Citizens United. As humans explore and colonize space, they come into conflict with aliens known as Arachnids, leading to an interstellar war. Poredouris intended to score the film as an action film, but Verhoeven wanted music that would provide a realistic backdrop for the characters' experiences. As a result, Poredouris focused on creating a sense of excitement, passion, and sadness. This 2LP deluxe edition features new album art reminiscent of the pulp SF paperback books of the 1960s, and is the first time the score has been released on vinyl. Also included are liner notes by musician Zoe Poredulis, daughter of director and composer Paul Verhoeven.A fold-out poster is also enclosed. Basil Poledouris is an American composer, conductor, and orchestrator of film and television music, best known for his long-term collaborations with directors John Milius and Paul Verhoeven. He has also worked on the films "Conan the Barbarian" (1982), "Red Dawn" (1984), "Iron Eagle" (1986), "Robocop" (1987), "The Hunt for Red October" (1990), "Free Willy" (1993), "Starship Trooper" (1997), "The Les Misérables (1998), among others. Polledouris won a Primetime Emmy Award (for Outstanding Composition for a Limited Series, Film or Special Program) in 1989 for his four-part miniseries "Lonesome Dove," and is a four-time BMI Film Music Award winner.
