Shortly before recording his first song with Bright Eyes, 14-year-old singer-songwriter Conor Oberst, along with bassist (and later Cursive frontman) Tim Kasher, guitarist Rob Nansel (now president of Saddle Creek Records), and drummer Matt Bowen (later The Uneventful Vacation," recorded at Hoboken's Water Music in August 1996, is the second album on RSD from the 1997 original release of Commander Venus, an emo band formed with guitarist Rob Nansel (now president of Saddle Creek Records) and drummer Matt Bowen (who later joined Faint and was replaced by Ben Armstrong). Vacation" was played repeatedly on college radio and received critical acclaim, and although it was the last release before the musicians went their separate ways, it has gained a cult following as a seminal work of '90s emo. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release, this special pressing of the album, mastered entirely analog from the original tapes by Kevin Gray of Cohearent Audio, also includes the bonus track "Congratulations!" that was included on the original release!
