Elvis Costello, a musical wizard who freely manipulates various musical genres such as rock, soul, country, jazz, and classical music with his outstanding taste, has released his first new album in 10 years under the name Elvis Costello & The Imposters since "Momofuku" (2008). This is Costello's first new album in 10 years under the name Elvis Costello & The Imposters since Momofuku in 2008, and his first album as Costello in 5 years since Wise Up Ghost with Roots in 2013. Recorded in Hollywood, New York, Vancouver, and British Columbia, the album is a return to simple rock 'n' roll, full of Costello's signature melodies and some orchestration. The Imposters and I started the 'Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers' tour in 2016, and we thought it was time to go into the studio. In the summer of 2017, he realized that he had never been able to express the power and pure musicality of The Imposters on a single album, and he finally did it with this album! According to Costello, "When you can make an album that has the feel of 'Imperial Bedroom' with The Attractions and the beauty and emotion of 'Painted From Memory' with Bacharach, that's something amazing." Most of the songs were written by Costello, but 'Don't Look Now' and 'Photographs Can Lie' were co-written with Bacharach, who also guest plays piano! Costello also sings on 'He's Given Me Things,' another Bacharach collaboration.The album also includes one song co-written with Carole King, 'Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter,' a pop song featuring horns and Steve Nieve's keyboards. The album was co-produced by Costello and Sebastian Criss (Latin Grammy winner for Best Producer in 2007 and 2015), who combines his love and understanding of music with the Imposters' Pete Thomas (ds) and Davey Faragher (b) in the LA studio. The Imposters' Pete Thomas (ds) and Davey Faragher (b) used to work together in the studio in L.A., so the recording was done in a very friendly atmosphere. With Pete and Davey around, I just play the back beat on my Telecaster to stay out of their way," said Costello. Costello said. As co-producer, Costello says, "All the orchestration and vocal parts were in my head before we started playing, so it was inevitable that I would have a good talk with Steve Nieve and try to arrange it to give him some light and space. He speaks. And Sebastian helped me by making the decision to include only the necessary sounds, even if they were fuzz guitars or jazz bassoons," he adds. For fans who have been following Costello, this is definitely a new masterpiece!
