She has been steadily building her career, touring with The XX and Grimes, and her latest album, "Chin Up Buttercup," is out now on Domino! Her latest album is a unique blend of her classical background, her strong yet clear and mysterious voice, and a danceable sound that sublimates her Eurodance influences to create a unique floating sensation. Austra has sung dramatic arias about tragedy for years, with four albums and a Canadian Screen Award to her credit. But she had a secret - she didn't really understand the "tragedy" of it. It was in early 2020 that she experienced it offstage. She received a sudden confession from her longtime partner. It was a complete surprise," she says. ...... "The person I loved woke up one morning and said, 'I'm not happy,' and then almost disappeared. I couldn't come to terms with the world, and it all seemed pointless," she says. The album's title is an ironic reference to the pressure from society to "stick a smile on your face and move on.
