A masterful performance conducted by H. Koch, recorded in 1963 by a group of Leipzig greats including Bosse, Zuske and other soloists. Newly reissued from the original ETERNA analog tape in Japan. Excellent recording by C. Streuben. Mastered only in the analog domain and directly converted to DSD! This is the 18th SACD hybridization of the latest reissue project of ETERNA's original analog tapes in Japan, and the world's first DISC of the unknown masterpiece recorded by the former East German conductor Helmut Koch in 1963 with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and other famous musicians in Leipzig. This is the first time in the world to reissue on DISC (first time on SACD) the world premiere recording of the Brandenburg Concerto, and although it was ETERA's first complete recording of the Brandenburg Concerto, it has never been introduced in Japan, and Helmut Koch's Brandenburg Concerto was later reissued in the 1970s with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, which was composed of selected members of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. The "Brandenburg Concerto" by Helmut Koch is more famous for the re-recording with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra in the 1970s, but this early stereo performance with Zuske, Bosse, and others as soloists is also one of Helmut Koch's masterpieces.The original LP was released in mono the year after the recording, followed by a stereo release a few years later with a slightly changed jacket design. The performance is very naturalistic, and the style of Bach performance in Leipzig at that time can be felt in many places, while Helmut Koch, who studied under Scherchen, conducts with precision. The calmness that coexists with precision is not a romantic direction of performance, but is based on the traditional style, and when listening to it now, one can hear similarities with the ancient music performances that have become more active since the 1970s. The calm tempo and the high prestige of this performance make it a valuable record that makes us think about the nature of the Bach performance tradition that has lived on in Leipzig. The orchestra is led by Bosse, who also performs a solo in No. 5. The solo by Zuske, who was in his late 20s at the time, is also excellent (he played solos in No. 2 and No. 4), and we can see his later success. The solos by the various wind instruments are in keeping with tradition, and the trumpet solo by Kruk and the harpsichord solo by Pischner are all worth listening to. This recording has such historical value that it would be a shame to leave it buried, so we have decided to release it as the latest SACD reissue.The excellent recording by C. Streuben, the master recording engineer for the entire recording, further enhances the value of the source material. (1/2)
