Description:

The world's first SACD release of the famous "Bull 5" performance from about a year before his death! The performance is both dynamic and well-balanced. The conventional 2-disc set is now reissued on a single disc! Excellent recording. Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! This is the seventh SACD hybrid version of the latest reissue of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan! The grandeur of the scale and the solid expressiveness that delves into the ideas of the music are unmatched by any other performance of the same period. Since the performance time of "No. 5" exceeds 80 minutes, it has been released as a 2-disc set in the CD era, but this time it has been recorded on a single disc. The wide dynamic range of the Bruckner performance is suitable for reissue in high sound quality, and the dynamic expression that is the special characteristic of this sound source is overwhelming. This is the world's first SACD recording of this superlative performance, and it has been beautifully renewed. The tempo is set slow for a performance of the time, and there is no rushed scene. It is a performance that is so slow and yet never relaxed, and it is a performance that can stand up well as a modern interpretation.Prior to the 1970s, when Bruckner's music was the subject of much research, some of the performances were old-fashioned, and there were few well-thought-out interpretations such as the one in this performance. However, Konwitschny's performance of the "No. 5" was highly acclaimed along with Jochum's in the early days of stereo music, perhaps because of his good affinity with the "No. 5". It is said that Takashi Asahina said before his death that he wanted to conduct like Konwitschny, and whether or not he heard this performance of "No. 5," we can hear a certain similarity in this magnificent performance. The orchestra's sound is not restrained, and while it is played with great vigor, the composition and balance in various parts are finely tuned, yet the solid form that is so important to this piece is never lost. Convitny's performance shines even among the many recordings of the Bruckner No. 5 that are now available due to the current Bruckner boom. The recording is superb, and Streuben's craftsmanship is an important element of this great performance of great scale. (1/2)
