This set includes "Handel: 6 Concertos Op.3", "J.S.Bach: Violin Concerto" (solo by Frank Peter Zimmermann), "Mozart: Serenade", "J.S.Bach: "Horn Concerto" (solo by Radek Babolak), "Symphonies of the Bach Family", and "C.P.E. Bach: Keyboard Concerto" (solo by Michael Richet). Handel's Six Ensemble Concertos, Op. 3, are small in scale but feature effective wind instrumentation, and in addition to the rich melodies typical of Handel, the ensemble concertos have an appealing, gorgeous sound. Frank Peter Zimmermann's recording of J.S. Bach's concerto solo with his son Serge also attracted attention. The recording was also notable for its two violin version of the Concerto for Oboe and Violin in D minor, BWV 1060, rather than the famous Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043. Reinhard Goebel conducted the orchestra in Mozart's Serenade. Goebel is best known for his recording of the Brandenburg Concerto with Musica Antiqua Köln (MAK) in 1986-1987. The recording made an impact with its new interpretative approach to period-instrument playing, and Goebel has since captivated audiences with his innovative performances. Goebel's portrayal of Mozart is truly lucid. The concerto recording with Radek Babolak was made in October 2020 at the Corona Disaster. Although it is a horn concerto, Bach did not write a concerto for horn, and Babolak performs it in a reconstructed version transposed and rewoven to suit the horn. Bach wrote wonderful melodies for natural horn, including the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1, Mass in B minor, and cantatas. Babolak has been exposed to many of Bach's works, including the Suite for Unaccompanied Cello and the Viola da Gamba Sonata, and this recording of the "Horn" Concerto is the conclusion of his music. The recording of the "Horn" Concerto is the conclusion of the music of Bach's sons Wilhelm Friedemann (1710~1784), Carl Philipp Emanuel (1714~1788), Johann Christoph Friedrich (1732~1795), Johann Ernst (1722~1777), Bach's nephew, Johann Ludwig (1722~1777), Bach's second cousin, and Johannes Bach (1722~1778), Bach's brother. Johann Ludwig (1677~1731), and his own works. Four of these works are world premiere recordings. Michael Richet played solo in C.P.E. Bach's Keyboard Concerto. Richet sensationally expresses the vivid world of C.P.E. Bach, and he and the Berlin Baroque Soloists form an exquisite ensemble. (King International)
