The work depicts the story of Iolanta, a beautiful blind princess, who meets the love of her life, Voltemon, and undergoes an operation that enables her to see. Tchaikovsky's music, which portrays Iolanta's emotional state, is performed with convincing conducting by Kourlenzis, and Peter Sellars' brilliant contrast between the world that the blind Iolanta sees and the glorious world of Iolanta who has gained light is a magnificent stage performance.Composed by Stravinsky between 1933 and 1934 (revised in 1949), the French melodrama "Persephone" was written for tenor solo voice, female narrator, mixed chorus, children's chorus, and orchestra. It is also called "another 'Rite of Spring'" because it is composed of three scenes: Scene 1, "Persephone Abducted," Scene 2, "Persephone in the Underworld," and Scene 3, "Persephone Reborn.
