EuroArts and San Francisco Opera are pleased to announce the release of a set of two bel canto operas from the "San Francisco Opera" series, Donizetti's "Lucrezia Borgia" and Bellini's "Capuleti and Montecchi," which have been previously released as a collaborative project between EuroArts and the San Francisco Opera. Donizetti's masterpiece "Lucrezia Borgia," an opera about Lucrezia Borgia (1480-1519), the historically renowned beauty of the Borgia family, was first performed at La Scala in December 1833 with great success and was very popular in the 1830s and 1840s. Although it has not been performed as frequently in recent years, it has become an opera for powerful prima donnas to try their hand at in full. In the San Francisco production recorded here, Renée Fleming took on Lucrezia.She sings beautifully of both sides of the face of a bad woman and a bad wife, and of a mother who loves her son. John Pascoe's production was originally intended for the Washington National Opera. It is a beautifully staged production that balances contemporary elements with a luxurious Hollywood-style aesthetic. Capuleti and Montecchi is the story of the famous Romeo and Juliet. Since the opera is based on an Italian legend, the story differs slightly from Shakespeare's play. At the San Francisco Opera in October 2012, Romeo was played by Joyce DiDonato, the star of the Metropolitan Opera, who sang the role of Romeo in pants. DiDonato's Romeo is a stunning performance with a wide range, excellent singing technique, and intelligent singing performance.For Giulietta, the cast features Nicole Cabell, a California-born soprano born in 1977, who won the Cardiff International Vocal Competition in 2005, and in 2007, DECCA released a collection of her arias, which quickly brought her to the forefront of the singing scene. The production was directed by Vincent Boussard of France. This production marks his U.S. debut. The costumes are by Christian Lacroix, a world-renowned designer active in the world of haute couture collections, mainly in Paris. The stylish and glamorous costumes are one of the highlights of the show. King International Inc.
