Description:
Gardiner's Christmas Oratorio, the first concert of his cantata pilgrimage at Herder Church in 1999, has been re-released in a new edition! Bach's masterpiece "Christmas Oratorio" consists of six cantatas performed by the great Gardiner. As part of a project to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Bach's death, Gardiner completed the "Bach: Cantata Pilgrimage," a grand project in which he visited churches in about 50 cities in Europe and the United States to perform all of Bach's church cantatas. This performance is a monumental concert that served as the starting point for the pilgrimage. The recording was made at Herder Church in Weimar, where Bach's children were baptized and where the Cranach Altarpiece is known. Gardiner's lucid interpretation, detailed and controlled choral forces, and deep prayer music are perfectly rendered.
