With strong support from Simon Rattle, Mark Anthony Taneghi (Taneghi) has emerged as a leading figure in the contemporary British composition scene, having served as Principal Composer for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and most recently being appointed Principal Composer of the London Philharmonic. This album features seven chamber music works composed by Taneghi between 1992 and 2004. Not only are all of these works world premiere recordings, but “Homage” for viola and eight instruments is scheduled to premiere in Worcester and The Hague in March 2006, making this recording its world premiere. Taneji’s works have been actively performed by conductors such as Rattle, Davis, Nassen, and Slatkin. His works have also been performed by soloists such as Christian Lindberg and Yuri Bashmet; furthermore, through collaborations with jazz musicians like John Scofield and Peter Erskine, he has become one of the most popular composers in the UK. The performance is by the British Nash Ensemble, which consistently delivers high-quality performances of works in a variety of ensemble configurations and styles.
