SOFT MACHINE, the originators of Canterbury music and one of the most famous bands in the scene, will release their '23 album in a limited 2-disc analog set! It has been announced that this album will be the last recording session of John Marshall, a drummer revered as a legend in the scene, and he participated in his last live performance at Ronnie Scotts Club in London in July 2022, after the recording of this album. Fred Baker has also joined the band to replace bassist Roy Babbington (guest on M-2 and M-9), who has announced his retirement from live performance since 2021. He has been a musician on the Canterbury scene for over 30 years and has played with Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, and Phil Miller.The band's music is broad and ambitious, with no limits set on jazz-based music: atmospheric improvisation, psychedelic free jazz, hypnotic alto flute, fretless bass grooves, powerful drums, experimental electronic music, and much more. The band ambitiously pursues its music without setting limits to jazz-based music. In addition to the 11 new original songs, the album includes re-recorded versions of the band's classic numbers 'Penny Hitch' (from "SEVEN") and 'Joy of a Toy' (from "THE SOFT MACHINE"). In addition, six new bonus tracks, 'AliceClar', 'Out of Interest', 'Guitar 2', 'Look You Know', 'When Frost Melts', and 'Fell to Earth (Alternative Take)', are included on SIDE D as LP-only bonus tracks. The album is a must have if you're a fanatic. If you are an enthusiast, this is a must-have item that will make you want to own it!
