His parents taught him to play music and at the age of 6! He was a prodigy who began composing at the age of six, and after meeting Beethoven, participated in the premieres of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony and "The Victory of Wellington". He was a successful composer and left many compositions, but he was also an acclaimed violinist who invented the chinstrap, and his main talent was chamber music for strings, as shown in this album. The album is a good album full of Spohr's easy-to-understand charms, with excellent performances by the virtuoso players of the WDR Symphony Orchestra. It is very likely to be out of print soon.
