100th anniversary of Boulez's birth Master Stefanovich records piano sonatas from the 20th century Praised for her "fearless, dazzling, and extraordinary playing" (The Guardian), the virtuoso pianist Tamara Stefanovich is at her best in modern and contemporary works. The album "Organised Delirium" focuses on the sonatas, and features Stefanovich at her best. Pierre Boulez's (1925-2016) Piano Sonata No. 2, composed in 1947-48 and premiered in 1950, symbolizes the reconstruction of music destroyed during World War II. This album combines this work with sonatas from the 20th century by Hans Eisler (1898-1962), Beulah Bartok (1881-1945), and Dmitrij Shostakovich (1906-1975). Each questions the "sonata" form, and finally returns to his roots with a work by Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Boulez, whose 100th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025, is Stefanovich's best-known work.The New York Times praised Stefanovich's recent concert of Boulez's Piano Sonata No. 2 as "phenomenally brilliant." 82 minutes and 52 seconds long.
