Master musician Arman's 19th-century German church music. Mendelssohn's choral works! Choral conductor Philipp Armant (b. 1974), who studied under the famous choral conductor Marcus Creed and has conducted mainly with German broadcast choirs, recorded Mendelssohn's religious choral works with the MDR Leipzig Radio Choir, of which he is currently the principal conductor. Although often overshadowed by orchestral works such as "Scotland," "Italy," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and lovely smaller works such as "Silent Song" and "On Wings of Song," choral music was a very important genre for Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn created his own style of choral music, incorporating not only the Renaissance and Baroque styles of Palestrina and Bach, but also the styles of traditional Jewish music. His wonderful music is considered to be the stuff of 19th century German church music. This album contains a selection of pieces that can be considered an overview of Mendelssohn's religious choral music, from works attached to German translations of famous psalms to a Latin work (Op. 115) and the world premiere recording of "Sacred Heart" MWV B 47.Armand's ability to bring together a large choral group of approximately 70 singers and create an exquisite sound is truly remarkable.
