Despite enduring repeated political persecution from the Czechoslovak authorities under communism, THE PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE—one of the foremost and most formidable avant-garde rock bands in the Czechoslovak underground scene, continuing their diverse activities to this day with indomitable spirit—performed their earliest career concert in the central Czech town of Zrc nad Sazavou. Recorded live on June 24, 1972 (with some material from a Prague concert on the 29th of the same month), this live album was released in 2025 by Czech label Guerilla Records. The recordings, which had lain dormant in the archives of engineer Pavel Prokes, were finally unearthed after over 50 years.While Globus Music previously released works capturing their earliest live performances, such as 'TROUBLE EVERY DAY' and 'MUZ BEZ USI' (later reissued by the Kissing Spell label as 'MAN WITH NO EARS'), there were virtually no recordings capturing entire concerts. This discovery is therefore a remarkable achievement. This valuable archive captures the band's lineup just before Vratislav Brabenec joined, featuring Josef Janicek (key/vo) and Jiri Kabes (g/vl) – who still lead their respective bands today – alongside Canadian vocalist Paul Wilson and trumpeter Jan Jilek, who was only with the band during this period. The performance showcases their own repertoire as well as covers of The Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa.
