Wagner (1813-1883) was wanted for his participation in the German March Revolutionary movement of 1849, which failed. He fled to Switzerland, where he lived in exile for nine years until 1858. He was still very creative, however, and began work on "The Ring of the Nibelung" and wrote his opera "Tristan und Isolde" at the same time. Of course, as we all know, he was not only devoted to music, but also to several women. Among them, his unforgivable love for Mathilde Wesendonck, the wife of the patron of the time, became the source for the creation of "Tristan," and the poem she presented to him was produced as the "Wesendonck Lieder," and this melody is used to great effect in "Tristan. This album contains mainly works derived from such forbidden love between Wagner and Mathilde.It is sung by Anne Schwanewilms, one of the finest Wagner singers of our time.
