Description:
The first release from Jazz Detective, a new label headed by Zev Feldman, the king of rare sound source discoveries! The first 180g weight vinyl release of the famous pianist Ahmad Jamal's unreleased recordings from 1963-1964! Jazz Detective" is a new label launched by Zev Feldman, the Indiana Jones of the jazz world, who has been active in Resonance Records and Blue Note Records, etc., as a contractor for discovering masterpieces. The first release is a rare live recording made in Seattle in the 1960's. Ahmad Jamal, born in 1930, is one of the true masters of jazz piano. Vol. 1 was recorded in 1963 and 1964, and Vol. 2 was recorded in 1965 and 1966 at the Penthouse Jazz Club in Seattle. The two recordings were discovered in a series of live broadcasts on the KING-FM program hosted by Jim Wilk from 1963 to 1968.At the time, the club's owner, Charlie Puzzo Sr. provided all the equipment needed to make the recordings in his store, making it possible to preserve these wonderful records. Charlie Puzzo's son, Charlie Puzzo.Jr, followed in his father's footsteps and devoted his passion to maintaining the vast tape archive left at the store, from which this rare recording was discovered by Zev Feldman and saw the light of day for the first time. Jamal first set foot in Seattle's Penthouse Jazz Club in 1963 and became a regular performer there. These two albums are a trio featuring bassists Richard Evans and Jamil Nassar, drummer Chuck Lumpkin, and others from the same period. In front of an audience that also evokes the club atmosphere of the time, the trio performs familiar standards, allowing the audience to enjoy Jamal's unique touch on the piano. Mastered from the original analog tapes by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman. Rare photos by Don Bronstein, Chuck Stewart, and others. It also includes a gorgeous booklet with interviews with Kenny Barron, Ramsey Lewis, John Batiste, Hiromi Uehara, and others. This product is eligible for National Record Store Day.
