Barne Whelan & Alain Jean-Marie Duo Concert in Montreal, Canada, July 1993! Dangerous Liaisons Blues, Besame Mucho, Goodbye... A conversation of hard bop dandyism and the intimate sounds of a duo performance. The duo of Alain Jean-Marie, born in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe, Lesser Antilles) in 1945, performed live in Montreal. Barne Whelan was literally one of the leading saxophonists in the French jazz world, and was also active in the world of film music, most notably on the soundtrack of "Elevator to the Gallows" in 1957. In his later years, Barné worked with pianist Alain Jean-Marie, with whom he collaborated on numerous works, including "La Note Bleue," recorded in 1986 and considered a masterpiece of songful composition. The duo's performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1991 was recorded as "Dream Time". Although this album is released two years after "Dream Time," the songs performed on this album are mainly their favorite numbers, which are mainly songs that they have performed together.As in "Dream Time," each set opened with "All the Things You Are," while "Round Midnight," "No Problem," "Besame Mucho," and "Good Bye" were familiar favorites. The relaxed, yet sophisticated performance with an esprit unique to the French-based artist was again a stylish touch. The dandyism of hard bop and the intimate conversation of sound that only a duo can provide can be enjoyed.
