Tabasian & Constantinople Part 4! Cross-border travel between Scandinavia and Persia! The fourth Glossa recording by Constantinople, an ensemble founded in Montreal in 1998 by Iranian-born Kiya Tabashian, who immigrated to Quebec at the age of 14 to study ancient Persian music. Under her artistic direction, Constantinople has produced a wide range of music from medieval and Renaissance, European, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern traditions, and its latest project features Norwegian folk singer and musician Benedikt Moehl, who is also known for his Hardanger fiddle (Hardingfälle). The project features a collaboration with Norwegian folk singer and musician Benedikt Moses, also known as a master of the Hardanger fiddle (Hardingfälle). The album is based on Norwegian and Iranian folk and traditional music from the Hardanger region of Norway, the birthplace of the Hardanger fiddle, a small violin-like folk instrument with resonant strings, as well as original compositions by Tabasian and Moses. The music is rooted in rich traditions, but also reflects new creativity and an emancipatory approach to modernity.Pure colors and rhythms, both meditative and frenetic, and majestic soundscapes travel from north to south, east to west, in an imaginary world without borders.
