Fabio Biondi's 5th Glossa! Handel's "Imeneo" from the 1742 Dublin edition! Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante have been on a roll ever since their recording of "Vivaldi - The Last Concerto" (PGCD 923402/GCD 923402) won a Record Academy Award for Best Recording in a Special Category. The fifth release on Glossa is "Imeneo," Handel's last opera along with "Deidamia"! Biondi chose to perform "Imeneo" with Europa Galante not in the "first draft" version of the 1740 London premiere, which ended in disaster, but in the 1742 Dublin version, which was revised into a concert form, "Serenata," with a few arias added for the 1742 Dublin performance. Handel traveled to Dublin at the invitation of the Governor of Ireland, where he was very successful.The true value of this unknown masterpiece, one of the most important works of the Dublin period from 1741 to 1742, but which has been hidden behind "Messiah" and other English oratorios, is presented in an excellent performance by Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante, two of the best understanding artists! The singers who perform with them are among the most talented of their generation, including Anne Hallenberg, who performed with him in Veracini's highly acclaimed "Hadrian of Syria" (FB 1409491), and Magnus Stavran, who performed in Vivaldi's "The Oracle of Messenia" at the Kanagawa Prefectural Music Hall.
