Their remarkable expressive range, effortlessly traversing repertoire from the Renaissance to the modern era, garnered tremendous acclaim. This album is a notable recording featuring the program from The Sixteen's central event, their UK tour "Choral Pilgrimage." Spain's Golden Age, the Siglo de Oro, is renowned as a period that produced many of the most significant religious choral works of the Renaissance. This recording focuses on the works of two Spanish composers representative of this golden era: Cristóbal de Morales and Sebastián de Vivancos. It features Morales's magnificent and expressive music, whose fame spread from Europe to the New World, alongside Bibanko's refined polyphony, meticulously crafted with intricate counterpoint that adorned liturgical services in the cathedrals of Ávila and Salamanca during the late 16th century.In striking contrast yet beautifully resonant with these 16th-century masterpieces are two contemporary works by James MacMillan and Karen Briggs, based on the words of St. John Henry Newman.
