Description:
Live recording at the Telemann Music Festival commemorating the 250th anniversary of Telemann's death! The Berlin Academy of Ancient Music is a renowned organization that has been actively performing and recording Telemann's "Millweisse" concerts and recordings. This is a live recording of Telemann's opera "Millweisse" made at the Telemann Music Festival held in Hamburg to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of Georg Philipp Telemann, which was first performed at the Genzemarkt Opera House in Hamburg in 1728 and was a great success. Based on a true story about politics that was popular in the Hamburg newspapers at the time, Telemann wrote a three-part opera about the exploits of an Afghan tribal chief named Milliweis. Telemann's style is colorful and dramatic, using oriental materials, which were becoming popular at the time, and shows his enthusiasm. After Telemann's death, the work was forgotten and the score was lost, but in 2012, Reinhard Goebel revived the score, which had been lying dormant in the archives, at the Telemann Festival and it became the talk of the town. The recording features not only the outstanding performance of the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music, but also a splendid lineup of soloists including André Morsch, Robin Johansen, Sophie Kalthauser, Lydia Teuscher, and Annette Fritsch.
