B'Rock Orchestra

Description:

Jacobs' first appearance on the PENTATONE label! Recordings of Schubert's Symphonies Nos. 1 & 6 with the Be-Rock Orchestra of his hometown Ghent! René Jacobs makes his first appearance on the PENTATONE label! He recorded Schubert's Symphonies No. 1 and No. 6 with the Be-Rock Orchestra of Ghent, his native Belgium. With his experience as a musician, keen ear, and deep knowledge, Jacobs conducts with full commitment in this remarkable recording. The B' Rock Orchestra was founded in 2005 in Ghent, Belgium's third largest city. The members of the orchestra are all talented musicians who inspire each other musically, and the orchestra has made a name for itself by performing with musicians such as René Jacobs, Ivar Bolton, and Alexandre Melnikov. The group's ability to create a variety of timbres makes for a truly colorful and stimulating performance with Jacobs. Schubert's originality is everywhere in the First Symphony, which clearly shows the influence of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and other older composers that Schubert mastered. From the beginning of the piece, Jacobs plays with a lively tempo and clarity in the vein of the Viennese Classical School. On the other hand, the Sixth Symphony is the first symphony in which Schubert gave the name "Scherzo" to the third movement of the classical serial form.As a symphonic composer, it is a masterpiece that reveals Schubert's unadulterated spiritual content. It is a masterful performance that shows the fullness of the musician Jacobs. As a child, Schubert was one of my favorite composers and the first composer I was given the opportunity to sing in concert. I became a member of the cathedral choir in my native city of Ghent and sang as a boy soprano soloist. At that time I heard a recording of Schubert's songs sung by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and became increasingly fascinated by Schubert. I began my career as a countertenor singer and have performed the works of various composers as a singer and conductor, but as a conductor I have returned to Schubert, whom I admire most."
