SACD Hybrid disc. Shlomo Mintz’s landmark recording of Bruch and Mendelssohn—the first release under his exclusive contract with DG—is being released as part of PENATONE’s RQR series. Born in Moscow in October 1957 and having emigrated to Israel at the age of two, Mintz was recognized as a child prodigy from an early age. Isaac Stern, who was among the first to recognize his talent, was deeply impressed by his playing, and Zubin Mehta, captivated by his rich talent, frequently collaborated with him from his teenage years onward, allowing him to expand his scope as a world-class violinist at a young age. Mintz’s debut recording for DG in 1980—when he was 23—featured a star-studded collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. Already well-established in his career, Mintz is known for his rich, luxurious tone and his singing-like playing, full of expressive depth. Furthermore, Abbado’s meticulous orchestration allows listeners to enjoy a performance of the highest caliber. This recording is also renowned as one of DG’s finest, captured by their renowned technical team to preserve even the subtlest nuances. The remastering by PENTATONE is also truly superb.
