Description:
A compilation that unravels the history of Showa-era counterculture music. Includes a wide range of acid folk music from the URC catalog of Happi End and Takashi Nishioka to rare independent recordings! The birth of counterculture music in Japan began with the end of the student movement in the late 1960s, which was chaotic but full of passion. Led by Dadaists, communists, pharmacists, and cult leaders, this movement was a story of young students, artists, and dreamers passionately seeking to turn their world upside down. The unique Japanese folk music that emerged on campuses in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka later flourished around URC (Underground Record Club), Japan's first independent leftist label, where Japanese musicians of the time, seeking to break away from copying Western music, pioneered new forms of expression. The Japanese musicians of the time, who were trying to break away from copying Western music, were able to develop new expressions here. At the forefront of this trend was Haruomi Hosono, one of Japan's proudest musicians. The subsequent formation of Y.M.O. made their name known around the world, but it was their success in putting Japanese into rock music for the first time as a member of Happi Hindo, which is included in this album, that sealed their reputation in Japan. The spirit and influence of the group's commitment to Japanese-language expression, which began with Kansai folk singer Takashi Nishioka and others who adjusted Japanese verses to a more formal tone, and continued with Ken Narita, has been carried on to the present day. In addition, this album, Nippin Acid Folk 1970-1980, includes songs from rare recordings made independently by Hiroshima-born Okubo Kazuhisa, who later became active in the folk groups Kaze and Neko, under the name Ninigashi when he graduated from college in Tokyo, as well as a number of other songs from a contemporary perspective that transcends the popularity and influence of the time. The album includes eight diverse acid folk songs that transcend the popularity and influence of the time and are considered from a contemporary perspective. The most unusual of these artists is Hiroki Tamaki, a violinist from the classical world. In 1975, he released a synth-prog album that would have made Keith Emerson look like Keith Emerson, and in 1980, Nippon Columbia released an acid-filled acoustic album celebrating Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh (aka Osho), a famous spiritual and religious leader from India. This album includes two songs from the album, and both sides A and B open the album. The insert includes the original artwork for the songs, a photo of Japan in the 1970s by Masahiro Nogami, the photographer who was in charge of all Happiendo's early photo shoots, and a four-page liner in English and Japanese that looks back at the social and musical background of the late 1960s and describes the birth of Japan's unique counterculture music and its first decade. The four-page liner notes in English and Japanese trace the birth of Japan's unique counterculture music and its first decade of history, looking back at the social and musical background of the late 1960s. Nippon Acid Folk 1970-1980" is part of Time Capsule's "Nippon Series," a series that presents a variety of scenes from Japan's past. Stay tuned for future releases in the series.Mastered by Andy Baldwin at Metropolis Studios, London, UKCompiled & Designed by Kay SuzukiAll photographs by Mike NogamiLiner notes by Anton Spice & Kay SuzukiCoordinated by Ken Hidaka & Kay Suzuki
