Certainly, there is much that MF DOOM's vast catalog says about the world around us. But what sets DOOM apart from many of his peers, predecessors, and descendants is the fact that while most rappers talk about the world as it is, DOOM's work is dominated by a world of his own creation. In 2004, MF DOOM released the epic "MM. FOOD," a massive work that led us into a world of strange decadence. MM. FOOD" is composed of food-related metaphors, in which DOOM paints a wryly comedic portrait of a life riddled with vice, sex, violence, and jealousy. It's a brilliant and novel device that gives DOOM plenty of room to explore the album's themes.Twenty years after its release, "MM. FOOD" has become an icon in its own right, it's easy to see why the album has become a beloved hip-hop staple, as has DOOM himself. From the influence the album's rough and loose production style had on modern boom-bap and lo-fi to the bold new creative possibilities his artistry and pen opened up for MCs, DOOM's work continues to shape our music today.
