L'Arpeggiata is a baroque ensemble founded in 2000 and directed by Christina Pluhar. Its members are today's leading European soloists, plus they collaborate with renowned baroque singers and classical music. The emphasis is on reviving little-known repertoire, primarily Italian and Neapolitan music of the early 17th century. Ruggiata's music is based on improvisation, a different approach to classical music, with an emphasis on the evolution of singing styles influenced by classical music, and an engaging stage presence that has earned them worldwide acclaim. Noteworthy on this latest album are the three countertenors featured as guest singers, Philip Jaroussky, Dominic Vis, and Vincenzo Capuzzo Capetto.Not merely singing Purcell's works as they are, the unique arrangements, including not only ancient instruments but also piano and saxophone, and improvisation, must be felt as modern and fantastic.
