Avie debut disc by New York's oldest music ensemble, Sonnambula! New York-based classical music ensemble Sonnambula makes its Avie debut. This recording sheds light on the works of composers in 16th and 17th century Europe who concealed their identities for social, religious, or ethnic reasons. The music that flourished at the intersection of diverse cultures includes the Catholic composers Byrd and Deering, who worked in Protestant England; Duarte, a Portuguese-Jewish woman composer who lived as a New Christian in Antwerp; and Rossi, who composed polyphonic music in Hebrew in the Western style. The collection includes music that flourished at the intersection of diverse cultures. This release coincides with the start of the artist-in-residence program at the Frick Collection, an art museum in New York that reopened this year after renovation. Tokyo M-Plus
