Bach's "Orchestral Suite (original version)" (AV 2171) with Ensemble Sonnerie.The second Avie recording, following Haggett's Bach, is Mendelssohn by the Benvenue Fortepiano Trio, a new period ensemble formed by a group of young American classical instrumentalists! Mendelssohn's "Piano Trios No. 1 & No. 2" have been performed by many artists as representative works of German Romantic chamber music, but it is rare to record them on period instruments, and the trio is led by Tanya Tomkins, a promising young American student of Bilsma, and Zelkin's pupil The trio is led by Haggett with strong leadership from Eric Zivian, a disciple of Zelkin, a promising young American student of Bilsma. Incidentally, the instrument Zivian plays is a Viennese fortepiano made in 1841, the year of Mendelssohn's death.
