Bach (1685-1750)

Description:

Karajan's treasured cellist tries Bach again! This is Antonio Meneses' second recording of the complete Bach Unaccompanied Cello Suites. Born in Brazil in 1957, Meneses began playing the cello at the age of 10, and moved to Europe at the age of 16 when he met Antonio Janigro, a cellist on tour in South America. He won first prize at the Munich International Competition in 1977 and the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982, but it was not until his recordings of Karajan's last years as a soloist that he became generally known. In 1993, he recorded his first complete works [Philips] on loan from Casals' Goffriller cello. This became synonymous with Meneses. As a soloist, he has performed with many of the world's major orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Symphony, Swiss Romande Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Washington Symphony, and NHK Symphony, and has worked with conductors such as The conductors with whom he has collaborated include the aforementioned Karajan, Muti, Jansons, Järvi, Abbado, Previn, Blomstedt, Thermikanov, Rostropovich, and Sanderling, and his vigorous activities remain unchanged. Furthermore, in 1998, he joined the world-renowned Beaux Arts Trio, and has been actively involved in chamber music. However, compared to the glitz and glamour of his debut, his recordings have not been so spectacular in recent years, so the sudden release from AVIE and the re-recording of his most important repertoire is sure to be a topic of conversation.Recorded June 2-5, 2004 at St. Martin's Church, Berkshire, England. Recorded at St. Martin's Church, Berkshire, England, June 2-5, 2004. The instrument used is a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaumme (Paris), circa 1840." 2 for 1" price.
