Description:

Rattle & LSO Rhythm Burst! A collection of works by Bernstein, Stravinsky and Golijov! Ebony Concerto Soloists also feature LSO Principal Sisters Chris Richardskatia & Marielle Labeck The LSO under Rattle is the strongest combination of the LSO, and we will enjoy works by Bernstein, Stravinsky, and Golijov, a Grammy composer. Rattle took over as LSO Music Director in the 2017-18 season; the recording was made in December 2018, shortly after his appointment, but already the chemistry between Rattle and the orchestra could not be more perfect. The program is a celebration of the fusion of classical and jazz, but the cool expression and piercing rhythms are perfect. This is a gorgeous performance by one of the world's finest orchestras! Bernstein's work, completed in 1949, was originally written for jazz ensemble, but was later revised for orchestra. It includes piano and solo clarinet. The piece is bursting with jazz-like rhythms, and both Rattle and the LSO play with great ease. Stravinsky's Ebony Concerto is performed with clarinet and jazz band. The clarinet will be played by LSO principal Chris Richards. Golijov's "Nazareno" is a vibrant work of Argentine tango and jazz rhythms, based on the "Mark Passion" commissioned in 2000 for the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach. The Passion originally featured orchestra, chorus, Brazilian jazz vocals, and Afro-Cuban vocals, but in 2008, at the request of the Lavec sisters, Gonzalo Grau of Venezuela arranged the piece for two pianos and orchestra, while retaining the Passion's elements. The title "Nazareno" is a reference to the Passion. The title "Nazareno" comes from Nazareth, the place where Jesus spent his childhood. The LSO, the Lavec sisters, and the Rattle make this piece, which is colored with Latin rhythms, sound wonderful! King International
