Noseda's Verlec kicks off the LSO 2016-17 season! A flawless performance by the LSO Brass Section, a splendid singing ensemble!Gianandrea Noseda has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the LSO. Noseda opens the 2016-17 season with Verdi's Requiem. This remarkable live recording features a star-studded cast of Italian singers and made a powerful impression on a rapturous London audience. Noseda has been music director of the Royal Opera House of Turin since 2007, and is increasingly attracting the world's attention, having won the 2016 International Opera Award for Conductors of the Year and the 2015 American Conductors Award. Noseda has already appeared live with the LSO in Britten: War Requiem, and it is no secret that he is a perfect match for the London Symphony Orchestra with his precise and bold musical delivery. Noseda chose Verdi's Requiem to open the LSO 2016-17 season. Noseda has a real treat on his hands, having performed Verdi's Requiem with the Orchestra of the Royal Theatre of Turin in 2011. Verdi's Requiem is filled with resistance to the fear of death and a prayer for the heavenly peace that death brings. Brahms is said to have said after hearing this work, "Only a genius could write something like this.Noseda brings out all that is in the work with a delicate, sometimes violent intensity, and brings it all together beautifully. The brass section of the LSO played to frightening perfection in the "Day of Wrath," in which the wind instruments play an active role. Noseda's trusted soloists were also magnificent. Soprano Grimaldi, born in 1980, is one of the sopranos on the rise, singing everything from Mozart and Rossini to Mimi (La bohème), while Barcellona, born in 1969, got her break with Rossini and has many fans in Japan, having visited the country many times. She is a gem of a soprano who has also sung well in Verdi and has established herself as a Verdi mezzo. The tenor is Mehri, born in 1980, who is active in the world including the MET with his lustrous voice and is also popular in Japan. All four singers are outstanding singers. King International
