Thielemann & the Vienna PhilharmonicThe first installment of "Bruckner 11/Bruckner 11", a project to commemorate Bruckner's bicentennial, was recorded live at the Musikverein in Vienna in March 2021! Bruckner 11" is a project by Thielemann & Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for the bicentennial anniversary of Bruckner's birth in 2024. The CDs of Bruckner Nos. 8, 3, 4, and 2 have already been released by Sony Classical, and now the C major label will start a complete collection of Bruckner 11 with video recordings. The first release includes the Fifth Symphony and the "Study Symphonies" WAB99 in F minor and WAB100 in D minor, performed and recorded for the first time in the history of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Thielemann said the following about performing the "Study Symphonies" in addition to the nine numbered symphonies: "Bruckner was a master of the nine symphonies," he said. Bruckner didn't write nine symphonies, he wrote eleven symphonies. People may not think these two symphonies are very good, but they are both very accomplished, and there are many parts that make you think, "This is Bruckner.It is also a surprise and a great pleasure to unexpectedly have the honor of being the first conductor to perform Bruckner's eleven symphonies together with the wonderful Vienna Philharmonic." The set also includes an interview with Thielemann and musicologist Johannes-Leopold Meyer about each symphony, as well as bonus footage from rehearsals. In the video, Thielemann vividly recounts his memory of the first time he heard the Fifth Symphony, which he considers to be very special. Christian Thielemann (1959-) is steadily building a career as one of Germany's leading conductors. He has performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra many times, including the "Complete Beethoven Symphonies" recorded from 2008 to 2010 and the 2019 New Year's Concert. Thielemann has already recorded nine of Bruckner's numbered symphonies with the Staatskapelle Dresden (757504/KKC9656), and this recording with the Vienna Philharmonic is another project that is typical of Thielemann, who has always expressed his passion for Bruckner.
