Description:

Newly Re-Released Dvorak's "Rusalka," Directed by Kuschei with a New BindingDvorak's "Rusalka" was performed at the Bavarian State Opera in October 2010. The production was a big hit, despite the controversy surrounding Martin Kushay's innovative stage direction. In "Rusalka," the water nymph Rusalka, who dreams of the human world, sacrifices herself to fall in love with a prince, but the prince changes his mind, and in the end, the prince and Rusalka, suffering from a curse, die in love. Kuschei further modernizes the story, bringing to the fore the grief of a girl who falls in love with a rich young man and creating a surprising turn of events in the third act. Although it may come as a surprise to those expecting a fairy tale, it succeeds in presenting a tragic love story with the cruelty of a folk tale in a modern setting. Rusalka's Christine Opolais is a soprano born in Latvia in 1979. She has been very active in recent years, especially in German-speaking countries, and is someone who is expected to soon break out as a great soprano. The prince is Klaus Florian Forkt, who became very popular in Lohengrin. This German tenor, born in 1970, is outstanding in these prince roles. The water nymph, who requires a strong presence despite her small role, will be sung by Austrian baritone Günter Groisbeck, born in 1976. He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Bayreuth Festival this year. The foreign princess, Nadia Krasteva, is a mezzo-soprano born in Bulgaria in 1976. She has been active mainly at the Vienna State Opera and has high expectations as a rising star of mezzo. The Wizard is played by Yanina Bechle, a mezzo born in Hamburg in 1968, and the cast is full of energy and vigor. The conductor is Tomasz Hanus, who served as music director of the Brno State Opera from 2007 to 2009. His fresh and lush music brings out the best of "Rusalka". King International
