Description:
2016 Verdi Festivals "Giovanna d'Arco" The latest production of "Giovanna d'Arco" projected in the historic Teatro Farnese by the genius Greenaway, performed at the 2016 Verdi Festivals. Verdi was born in Busseto, a suburb of Parma. The "Giovanna d'Arco," first performed at La Scala in Milan in 1845, is based on Schiller's play "The Girl from Orleans. Giovanna d'Arco," premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1845, is the seventh opera based on Schiller's play "The Girl of Orleans," which Verdi composed at the age of 31. Giovanna d'Arco is the Italian reading of Jeanne d'Arc.It is the story of Jeanne d'Arc, a 16-year-old girl who leads the French army to victory by divine decree during the Hundred Years War when France is under attack by the English, but loses her life in the end. Although Verdi's musical skills can be felt throughout the work, the script was not well received at the time, and the opera was rarely performed after its premiere and did not see the light of day until it was revived in 1951. The venue for this production was the Teatro Farnese, famous for its long, horizontal stage. It is famous as one of the oldest theaters in Europe, and is a very beautiful wooden theater built for the Medici queen who was to marry into the Farnese family. Destroyed by bombing during World War II, it was restored twice, in 1956 and 1960. It was later used as a theater for a concert of Verdi's Requiem conducted by Claudio Abbado at the Verdi Festival in 2011.Since then, it has been performed at the Teatro Farnese every year during the festival. And this production was directed by Peter Greenaway, one of Britain's leading art film geniuses. Greenaway is well known for his diverse film productions, including "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Mistress" and "Rembrandt's Night Watch," and this production will also make use of the audience as part of the stage, with projections of the Virgin, modern cartoons, refugee children, and a fantastic lighting installation. The production makes full use of the frame stage characteristic of the historic Teatro Farnese to create a completely new opera. The title role will be played by Vittoria Yeo, an up-and-coming soprano born in South Korea in 1980. She has been active mainly in Italian opera houses and made her debut at the Salzburg Festival under the baton of Muti. She sings with a clear yet dignified core, leading the role itself and the opera as a whole. King International
