Grand Opening Concert of the new Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, completed after many twists and turnsLive footage of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg's grand opening concert featuring the Elbphilharmonie & Hengelbrock and their splendid collaboratorsThe grand opening of the Hamburg, Germany, concert hall "Elbphilharmonie Hamburg" on January 11, 2017, was held at the The concert hall "Elbphilharmonie Hamburg" had its grand opening on January 11, 2017 in Hamburg, Germany. A live video of its memorable opening concert is now available for purchase. The port city of Hamburg is located about 100 km upstream from the mouth of the Elbe River in northwestern Germany. The Elbe River flows through the port of Hamburg, which is famous as the second largest trading port in Europe. The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg was built by redeveloping an old industrial area in Hamburg. The architectural design was by Herzog & de Meuron, a Swiss architectural unit that has attracted worldwide attention for its work on the stadium where the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics was held and the Prada boutique in Aoyama, Japan. Yasuhisa Toyoda, one of the world's leading acoustic designers, was in charge of the hall's most important acoustics, and Mitsuko Uchida selected the piano to be installed in the hall, which was completed with the involvement of many Japanese. The North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, one of Hamburg's leading orchestras, has made this hall its new home, and with it the orchestra has changed its name to the "NDR Erpphilharmonie". The Ensemble Resonanz" will be based in the small hall and is making a new start. This opening commemorative concert features the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and its chief conductor, Hengelbrock, as well as many first-rate musicians. World-renowned countertenor Philip Jaroussky will perform Caccini's "Rei Amarilli" and other works with harpist Margrethe Kehr. Their clear voices echo through the hall. The world premiere of "In Memoriam: Three Poems and Quotations in Honor of Hans Hennie Jahn," composed for this occasion by the contemporary German composer Wolfgang Rihm, was also performed. The writer and organ builder Hans Hennie Jahn, who spent his last years in Hamburg, was a local connection. And finally, the last movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.The concert concludes with a spectacular lineup of soloists, including Hanna Elisabeth Müller (soprano), Wiepke Lehmkuhl (alto), Pavol Breslik (tenor), and Bryn Terfel (bass-baritone), who have been performing remarkably well in recent years. To accompany the concert, projection mapping was applied to the exterior of the building, creating a stunning fusion of "sound" and "light" in the video. In addition to the live concert footage, a 53-minute documentary is also included. In fact, the hall was finally completed 10 years after construction began in 2007. The innovative idea and design of turning the historic warehouse district of the Port of Hamburg into a concert hall was a project that faced many problems, as the construction period, which was planned to last three years, turned into ten years, and the total budget ballooned to ten times the planned amount. This documentary [A New Landmark, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg] was produced with interviews with the people involved in the twists and turns from the start of construction to its completion. It is a valuable documentary that bears witness to history. King International
