Description:
Finnish epic folk metal band BATTLELORE’s debut album, released in 2002, is being reissued on vinyl for the first time. This album established the band’s signature style, blending medieval lyricism with heavy metal, and was the first to clearly showcase the fantasy elements that form the core of the band’s worldview. The lyrics are based on the tales of Middle-earth, incorporating characters and events from J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary works, particularly *The Lord of the Rings*, as motifs. The songs are composed of grand keyboard orchestrations, the contrast between male death vocals and female clean vocals, and melodic guitar riffs characteristic of Nordic metal, with the primary focus on musically depicting a fantastical narrative world. Sonically, the introduction of symphonic keyboards and folk-inspired melodies plays a key role, characterized by a heavy arrangement that combines elements of epic metal and melodic death metal. In particular, the interplay between female vocals and male growls is a signature style of the band that would be carried forward in later works, and its basic form was already established at this stage.
