Noseda & NSO's Complete Beethoven Collection in a Complete Beethoven Box! The complete Beethoven cycle by Noseda and the Washington National Symphony Orchestra is now available in a SACD Hybrid box. The box also includes two Blu-ray audio discs, which are filled with high-spec sound recordings and a video of the Ninth Symphony. Noseda and the NSO will perform Beethoven's complete symphonies from January 2022 to June 2023 in a program with George Walker's orchestral music. Noseda says, "Beethoven's sound (voice) is as fresh and powerful today as it was when he created his masterpieces." Approaching Beethoven is something of an adventure. But you know that the adventure has begun, but you have no idea where it will lead you. With Beethoven, every moment is a discovery." Like these words of Noseda, Beethoven unfolds in a way that does not end in scheduled harmony. The beauty of the melodies brought to life by the refined beauty of the strings and winds is also awe-inspiring. The splendid singers in the Ninth are also powerful. The Ninth is sung by Camilla Tilling, a world-class Swedish soprano with a "beautiful voice and unwavering musicianship" who has won acclaim at prestigious opera houses in the United States, Europe, and England. Kelly O'Connor is a mezzo-soprano who has a superb presence and stability in a wide range of repertoire, from Beethoven to John Adams (who wrote "The Gospel According to Another Mary" for O'Connor) to Golijov's "Ainamadar" and more. Isach Savage is an American tenor with a voice of rare balance of delicacy and power, who came to international attention after winning the 2014 Wagner International Competition in Seattle. The bass-baritone is Ryan McKinney, an American who also appeared in Bayreuth and whose deep reading of the characters and lyrics evokes empathy for the characters and lyrics. Cover art is an abstract painting by Mo Willems, also a picture book artist.Willems was so moved by a Beethoven concert one evening that he spent a year listening to and studying each piece over and over, realizing how Beethoven's style and technique had changed over time. Based on this experience, he created nine panels, each representing a movement. Each panel is composed of parts that represent each movement, and the parts represent the length of the movement. Looking at Willems' panels, you feel as if you are looking inside Beethoven's head through Willems' and Noseda's performances. (Willems was the Kennedy Center Education Artist in Residence (2019-22) and continues to work with music. At the beginning of his career, he was a broadcaster for Sesame Street, and he is also a world-renowned picture book author whose "Elephant and Buta" series has been published in Japanese translation by Crayon House).
