Description:
Min Baru (Polydor/2382 003/LP), the only album released by the jazz-rock trio Min Baru, led by Norwegian jazz guitarist Terje Lipital, in 1970, is reissued on 180-gram weight LP. Min Bul, a Norwegian rock and jazz milestone and part of the famous Nurse With Wound list, by the band led by the young Terje Lipdal, is reissued. Recorded in September 1970 at Rosenborg Studios with Egil Eide as engineer, "Min Bul" was highly experimental for its time and came out of the Samkran project at the Henny Onstad Art Center. At this art center, director Ole Henrik Moe encouraged collaboration between adventurous composers and improvisational musicians. On the album, Lipdahl plays electric (and soprano sax overdubs), often scratchy, and even edgy noisy avant-garde jazz, while talented jazz musicians Bjørner Andresen (bass) and Espen Rud ( percussion).The trio's experimental approach has renewed the landscape of jazz rock and free improvisation, setting a precedent for future explorations of the genre. Opening track "I Cried A Million Tears Last Night" is a fascinating introduction to the album's dynamic range, reminiscent of the innovative work of contemporaries such as Miles Davis. Min Bul" takes the listener into an exhilarating soundscape where powerful riffs meet avant-garde improvisation. Notable tracks such as "Champagne Of Course" and "Strange Beauty" exemplify the trio's ability to create compelling musical narratives full of depth and texture. Along with John McLaughlin's "Extrapolation" and Larry Corriel's earlier records, "Min Bul" is one of the major guitar-centric avant-garde jazz-rock albums infused with a darker, psychedelic bent.
