The music was composed by Ennio Morricone, a master of film music. It features a relentless rhythm that perfectly matches the atmosphere of the film. The film was shot in Genoa and stars Franco Nero, one of the genre's leading stars. Morricone's cool jazz side shines through in this excellent film. The main theme, "Citta Viva," is beautifully arranged for a big band and trio of soloists chosen by Morricone himself, with friends and collaborators Enrico Pieranunzi (piano), Roberto Gatto (drums), Riccardo del Fra ( This is the first LP release in about 40 years since the original version was released in 1982. It has been newly remastered.
