Siglo de Oro, the new generation vocal ensemble of the "Spanish Golden Century", brings to life a mysterious collection of motets from the late 1530s! In the late 1530s, the Milanese composer Hermann Matthias Verecolet compiled religious music by various composers and sent it across the Alps to the publisher Peter Schoeffer in Straßburg (now Strasbourg, France), then part of the German Empire. The five part books were published in 1539. This collection of chants was delivered from Catholic Milan to Protestant Strassburg, transcending religious boundaries. What was the purpose of publishing this collection of motets in a city where Latin choral singing was no longer practiced due to the Reformation?Siglo de Oro worked with Dr. Daniel Trocm-Latter of Cambridge University to produce this album, and from this enigmatic collection of works, we have been able to discover works by Nicolas Gombert, Jaquet de Mantova (Jaquet de Mantova), Jacques Arcadelt, Adrien Villalto The collection successfully introduces motets by well-known composers as well as works by lesser-known composers such as Simon Ferrariensis and Johannes Sarton. These motets, all recorded for the first time in the world, are interwoven with meticulous musicological research and detailed, rich singing. Tokyo M-Plus
