Description:
Two string quartets created by Janacek (1854-1928) in his later years. No. 1 was inspired by Tolstoy's novel "Kreutzer Sonata," in which the protagonist, upon learning of his wife's infidelity, describes his anguish to the point of madness until he murders her. The second piece is a symbolic reflection of the contents of 700 letters written to Camilla Steslová, a woman who had a great influence on Janacek, and is neither a dream nor a fantasy. Recorded in 2013/2014, the Energie Nove String Quartet performs two works that have left no shortage of people strongly captivated by their rich expression, using a new edition of Bärenreiter's score that overcomes the viola's technical challenges.
