Gustav Mahler and the Munich Philharmonic have a very special relationship. As a composer, Mahler created a lasting link between the Austro-German tradition of the 19th century and the modernism of the early 20th century. His works have been a large part of the Munich Philharmonic's core repertoire ever since, producing outstanding masterpieces. The Munich Philharmonic Independent Recordings has begun to offer a rich collection of recordings by the legendary artist from their numerous archives. We are pleased to announce the release of this live concert by Christian Thielemann to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mahler's death. It features eight pieces from "The Boy's Magic Horn" with Michael Follé as baritone, and the Adagio from "Symphony No. 10," a profoundly Germanic piece of music.The new mastering was supervised by ECM and mastered by Christoph Stickel, an engineer who has worked on various Keith Jarrett albums.
