Description:

Forgotten beautiful melodies come to life once more— Rosa Feola sings Donizetti's hidden song collection. Volume 7 illuminates the essence of 19th-century Italian song. The prolific and versatile Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti is known as a central figure in Italian bel canto opera, yet he also left behind some 200 solo songs. Many of these are rarely performed today, and some were completely unknown until recent years. Under the supervision of musicologist Roger Parker and conducted by Carlo Rizzi, Artistic Director of Opera Lara, this label presents a series of recital albums spanning eight volumes, introducing all of Donizetti's solo songs. This project positions Donizetti as a key composer in the 19th-century song repertoire, restoring the brilliance of Italian song to a field long dominated by German and French composers. This volume features the renowned soprano Rosa Feola, who performs at major opera houses worldwide. Her crystalline voice and expressive artistry have earned her international acclaim, and she won numerous prizes at the Operalia International Competition early in her career. With what The Times praised as "perfect breath control and phrasing," Feola breathes life into Donizetti's rare soprano songs, revealing their emotional depth and natural elegance. This recording is Volume 7 of Opera Lara's innovative Donizetti Song Project, reviving one of the most remarkable rediscoveries in the history of Italian vocal music. Includes a 76-page booklet (notes and lyrics in English only). [Rosa Feola] is a soprano born in Casalnuovo, near Naples. She studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory under Lucia Alberti and others. In 2010, she won the top prize and the Audience Award at the Plácido Domingo-sponsored Operalia International Competition, instantly gaining attention. She subsequently made her Salzburg Festival debut under Riccardo Muti, receiving acclaim for her role as Nanetta in Verdi's Falstaff.Since then, he has appeared at major theaters worldwide, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, building a broad repertoire centered on works by Donizetti, Mozart, and Verdi. Renowned for her clear diction, soft and luminous voice, and delicate expressiveness, she has been hailed by The Times as "a master of perfect breathing and phrasing," gaining international acclaim both on stage and in recordings.
