Alexander Uninsky
Description:
Alexander Uninsky (often spelled Uninsky in Japan, but Uninsky is closer to the original 1910-1972) was born in Kiev/Kiev (then a territory of the Russian Empire). He showed talent at an early age and studied under Sergei Tarnovsky, a famous teacher at the Kiev Conservatory and a mentor of Horowitz. In 1932, he won the first prize at the 2nd International Chopin Piano Competition. After the German invasion of France, he moved to the New World and was based in the United States from 1943, and after World War II, he was active in France and other European countries. Yuninsky combines the rich musicality of a virtuoso pianist linked to the 19th century tradition with the character of a modern pianist who spins music with high modern technique and a somewhat hard, delicate sound, and is truly wonderful to listen to in the 21st century. In the past, he recorded Chopin and other works for PHILPS and released them on CD, but all are now out of print. These broadcast recordings from Germany, Holland, and Belgium are a precious reminder of Yuninsky's wonderful art. Tobu Shoji Co.
