Description:
Echoes of old dances, reverberations of medieval secular music! The example of instrumental estampie in the "Codex de Kings" in the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris is the earliest known example of this type of music, and is estimated to date from the early 14th century. This recording comprises an album of eight estampies and three dances from this manuscript, plus four pieces based on melodies used by the troubadour. Troubadour is known to have used estampie melodies in some of his works, most notably Karen_ Maia, which is mentioned in his "Solution". The Santes Creus (meaning Holy Cross) Monastery, where the recording was made, is a Cistercian monastery built in the 12th century by the Count of Barcelona, who recovered his territory from the Muslims at that time, and is also a World Heritage Site and is closely associated with the legend of the Holy Grail and the Knights Templar. ［Comment courtesy of King International.]
