The quartet won the first prize at the Geneva International Competition in 2001, and has been active internationally. Haydn completed his quartet calligraphy. From his masterpiece "Russian Quartet" Op.33, which has been described as the collection in which Haydn perfected his quartet writing style, and which also shocked Mozart and led him to write the "Haydn Set", this recording includes Op.33-3, nicknamed "The Bird" because of the sound pattern of the second theme of the first movement, and three other pieces.
